The Stuff We Made During CreateAthon 2019

Every year at the end of October, we swap our candy corn for coffee beans in order to fuel up for CreateAthon— our annual event where we pause client work and stay up for 24+ hours straight, making marketing magic for 3 local nonprofits. And this year was our lucky 13th year participating.

This year we had the absolute pleasure of working with (and befriending) Giving Smiles, PENCIL, and YEAH! Three nonprofits fighting the good fight here in Nashville. Here’s a closer look at these organizations and the work we created this year:

Giving Smiles

Their mission:

Smiles are how we connect. They’re how we share joy. But nearly half of Tennesseans are ashamed of their smiles. Giving Smiles helps people love their smiles again—by making quality dental care accessible to all. With one small but mighty dental office, a van stocked with everything healthy teeth need, and heaps of community support, they help more Tennesseans smile freely.

What they needed:

>>New branding

>>A website

>>Sales and marketing collateral

What we did:

We created a logo that incorporated a smile as well as a heart, representing the pure joy that patients feel when they are able to free their smile.

We created a website featuring custom imagery and messaging that checked back to their mission and Innocent archetype.

We secured donated media space, including 200,000 impressions on NashvilleScene.com and 10 digital bulletin ads around town!

PENCIL

Their mission:

PENCIL’s mission is to link community resources to Nashville public schools to help young people achieve academic success and prepare for life. They believe community involvement is the key to this success. PENCIL has more than 630 Partnerships impacting students and teachers in the Metro Nashville Public School system, making them one of the nation’s largest networks of businesses, universities, and faith-based organizations actively engaged in public schools.

What they needed:

>>Website redesign

>>Awareness/testimonial video

>>Marketing collateral

What we did:

We redesigned their website with different audiences in mind—highlighting their mission, success, programs, and the ways to get involved.

We created a video to help tell their story. We made sure to lift up the voice and perspective of the students they impact.

We equipped them with eye-catching collateral including a tri-fold brochure designed to clearly outline their mission and opportunities for involvement.

YEAH! (Youth Empowerment Through Arts and Humanities)

Their mission:

YEAH!, provides a safe learning environment for teens empowering them not only in the arts but in life skills, volunteerism, and community service. YEAH! creates programming that values collaboration over competition. These camps are designed to allow campers (regardless of race, class, gender expression, or creed) freedom of expression and exploration through music and performance.

What they needed:

>>Campaign materials

>>Revamped presentation template

>>Storytelling video

What we did:

We designed a rockin’ poster series and social assets that highlights the individualism and freedom of expression YEAH! campers experience.

We developed a donor, sponsor, and grant strategy and compiled it into a pitch deck that speaks to potential backers across a wide spectrum of investment levels.

We created a video that helps tells their story through the lens of their Explorer archetype and “don’t fence me in” attitude. Oh, and did we mention the custom music?
